The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a record-breaking cash reward of ₹131 crore for India national cricket team following their historic triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The announcement came after India defeated New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, successfully defending their title and creating history in the tournament.
Biggest Prize in Indian Cricket History
The ₹131 crore reward is the largest prize ever announced by the BCCI for a cricket team, surpassing the ₹125 crore reward given to the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma after winning the T20 World Cup two years ago in Barbados.
Previously, the Indian team that won the ICC Champions Trophy received ₹58 crore, while the team that won the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup last year was awarded ₹51 crore.
In an official statement, the BCCI congratulated the players, support staff and selectors for their outstanding performance and contribution to the historic victory.
Historic Achievement for Team India
With this victory, India became the first team in history to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup three times. The triumph also marked the first time a team successfully defended the T20 World Cup title.
The win further strengthened India’s reputation as one of the most dominant teams in the shortest format of the game.
Suryakumar Yadav Joins Elite List of Captains
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav joined an elite group of leaders who have guided India to World Cup glory. The list includes legendary captains such as Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur.
The victory was particularly special as India won the tournament on home soil, adding another milestone to the nation’s cricketing history.
Dominant Campaign in the Tournament
India enjoyed a dominant run throughout the tournament, losing only one match against South Africa national cricket team in the Super 8 stage by 76 runs.
However, the defeat proved to be a turning point as India bounced back strongly. The team secured a crucial win over the West Indies cricket team in a must-win match before edging past the England cricket team in a tense semi-final clash.
In the final, India’s batting lineup delivered a spectacular performance, posting a massive 255/5 in 20 overs, before bowling out New Zealand for 159, sealing a comprehensive victory.
The historic triumph has been widely celebrated across the country, with fans and cricketing experts hailing it as one of India’s greatest achievements in T20 cricket.
