Indian Railways Supercharges Connectivity: Udhna–Brahmapur Amrit Bharat Express Now Tri-Weekly

In a forward-looking decision to significantly bolster long-distance rail connectivity and efficiently address soaring passenger demand, the Ministry of Railways has formally sanctioned the ramp-up of the 19021/19022 Udhna–Brahmapur–Udhna Amrit Bharat Express service. The train, a critical link between the industrial hub of Surat, Gujarat, and the vibrant city of Brahmapur, Odisha, will transition from a weekly operation to a more accessible tri-weekly schedule.

The official mandate, issued by the Railway Board on November 11, 2025, reflects the consistent popularity and high utility of this cross-country route, which traverses five states: Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha. The move is designed to offer significantly enhanced travel options, particularly benefiting the large number of workers and families from Odisha residing in Gujarat.

Detailed Revised Train Schedule

The increase in frequency will see the train operate on three designated days for both the forward and return journeys, offering greater flexibility for travel planning:

Train Number Service Departure City New Days of Operation
19021 Udhna–Brahmapur Amrit Bharat Express Udhna (Surat) Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
19022 Brahmapur–Udhna Amrit Bharat Express Brahmapur Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays

This new timetable substantially replaces the prior weekly service, offering three times the opportunity for passengers to undertake the approximate 1,710 km journey, which takes over 30 hours to complete, connecting major centers like Nagpur, Raipur, and Vizianagaram.

Commitment to Passenger Convenience and Modern Travel

The Amrit Bharat Express itself represents Indian Railways’ commitment to providing modern, safe, and comfortable non-AC travel for the common man. Equipped with modern LHB coaches, the train boasts superior amenities such as jerk-free travel with semi-permanent couplers, CCTV surveillance for enhanced security, improved aesthetics, mobile charging points at every seat, and clean bio-vacuum toilets.

Railway officials emphasized that the tri-weekly operation will be a game-changer, especially for middle-class travelers who rely on affordable and economical rail options. The increase in service frequency is expected to ease the heavy rush on the route, facilitating more convenient journeys for family visits and business travel between Western and Eastern India.

Directives for Zonal Railways

To ensure a seamless and timely rollout of the augmented service, the Railway Board has issued clear directives to the relevant zonal authorities. Implementation responsibility has been assigned to four major zones governing the route: Western Railway (WR), Central Railway (CR), South East Central Railway (SECR), and East Coast Railway (ECoR). These zonal railways have been tasked with coordinating operational adjustments and taking all necessary logistical measures to initiate the tri-weekly schedule from an “early convenient date.” The focus remains on timely compliance to unlock the full benefit of this enhanced connectivity for the public as soon as possible.
