Bhubaneswar: Consumers across Odisha will have to pay more for OMFED milk from October 4, with the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) announcing a Rs 2 per litre increase in the prices of its different milk varieties.
The revised rates will apply to OMFED’s popular milk products, increasing the daily expenditure for households that regularly purchase the dairy cooperative’s milk.
New OMFED Milk Prices From October 4
Under the latest price revision, the rates of various OMFED milk varieties will change as follows:
- Toned Milk: Rs 56 to Rs 58 per litre
- Premium Milk: Rs 58 to Rs 60 per litre
- Gold Premium Plus: Rs 64 to Rs 66 per litre
The new prices will come into effect across Odisha from October 4.
Milk Price Hike To Increase Daily Household Expenses
The increase comes at a time when consumers are already managing expenses on several essential household items.
Although the revision amounts to Rs 2 per litre, families purchasing milk regularly will see their monthly expenditure increase depending on their daily consumption.
For example, a household buying one litre of OMFED milk every day would spend approximately Rs 60 more per month under the revised pricing.
OMFED Bringing QR Codes To Dairy Products
Alongside the price revision, OMFED is also introducing QR codes on its dairy products as part of efforts to provide consumers with more information about the products and help verify their authenticity.
The QR code system will provide details such as the date and place of production, usable period and instructions for use.
The facility has already been introduced for OMFED ghee, while QR codes are expected to be extended to other dairy products, including paneer and curd.
Revised Rates Effective From October 4
For consumers, the immediate change will be the revised milk prices coming into effect on October 4.
With the three major varieties seeing a uniform Rs 2 per litre increase, consumers will need to account for the higher rates in their regular household purchases.
The QR-code initiative, meanwhile, is expected to provide additional product-related information to consumers as OMFED expands the system across its dairy range.
