Odisha’s leading dairy cooperative OMFED is considering expanding its product portfolio with the introduction of ice cream and packaged drinking water in the state market.
Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik said discussions regarding the proposed products are currently underway at the board level. The new items are expected to be introduced in Odisha after receiving the necessary approval from the OMFED board.
The proposed expansion is part of the cooperative’s efforts to diversify its offerings and respond to changing consumer demand while continuing to focus on quality and food safety.
OMFED Board to Decide on New Products
Minister Gokulananda Mallik said OMFED is considering several new products, with ice cream and packaged drinking water among the items currently under discussion.
The organisation will move ahead with the proposed launches only after the plans are discussed and approved by the board.
The Minister indicated that OMFED could introduce additional products in the future as part of its strategy to expand its presence in the consumer market.
The diversification could allow OMFED to reach new customer segments while creating additional opportunities within the cooperative’s wider dairy and agricultural ecosystem.
Three-Tier Quality Checks for OMFED Milk
While discussing the proposed product expansion, the Minister stressed that quality control remains a major priority for OMFED.
He said the organisation follows a multi-level testing mechanism to maintain standards across its products. Milk is subjected to a three-tier quality-checking process, including testing of its fat content.
Measures are also in place to detect and prevent adulteration before products reach consumers.
According to the Minister, adulteration is not tolerated in OMFED products and strict action is taken whenever any irregularity is identified.
The emphasis on quality control is expected to continue as OMFED expands its product portfolio and enters additional consumer categories.
Milk Price Increased to Support Dairy Farmers
The Minister also highlighted OMFED’s efforts to improve the financial position of dairy farmers associated with the cooperative network.
He said the procurement price of milk has been increased by Rs 2 per litre, with the objective of ensuring better returns for farmers and helping them become more financially self-reliant.
The price revision is intended to strengthen the economic condition of dairy producers while encouraging continued participation in the cooperative system.
OMFED’s farmer-focused approach is aimed at balancing consumer needs with the interests of dairy producers who form the foundation of the cooperative’s supply network.
OMFED Looks to Broaden Consumer Reach
The proposed introduction of ice cream and packaged drinking water would represent a significant expansion beyond OMFED’s traditional dairy offerings.
As consumer preferences continue to evolve, the cooperative is looking at opportunities to add new products while maintaining its emphasis on quality and safety.
However, the proposed products are not yet confirmed for market launch. The plans will require formal approval from the OMFED board before production and commercial rollout can proceed.
With discussions already underway, OMFED’s planned diversification could mark a new phase in the cooperative’s efforts to strengthen its brand presence in Odisha.
