Bonai, Sundargarh: An unusual weather phenomenon surprised residents of Bonai in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Saturday morning as dense fog blanketed several parts of the area despite ongoing monsoon rainfall.
The rare combination of thick fog and rain during the monsoon season created an unusual landscape across Bonai, with visibility dropping considerably in several locations. Residents were particularly surprised because dense fog of this intensity is generally associated with the cooler months of October and November, rather than the rainy season.
Dense Fog Reduces Visibility Across Bonai
Several parts of Bonai were covered in a thick layer of fog during the early morning hours. Residents who stepped out for morning walks around 6 am encountered significantly reduced visibility as the fog spread across the locality.
According to local observations, the fog persisted until around 7:30 am. In some areas, people reportedly struggled to clearly identify nearby houses, vehicles and other objects. Trees located at a distance also appeared blurred or almost invisible through the dense fog.
The sudden change in weather conditions caught the attention of residents, many of whom were surprised to witness such a scene during the monsoon.
Continuous Rainfall Precedes Unusual Fog
Bonai has reportedly been experiencing continuous rainfall for the past two to three days. The persistent wet conditions, followed by the formation of dense fog during the early morning, resulted in a striking weather scene.
While fog is not entirely unknown in the region, residents generally associate such conditions with the onset of cooler weather later in the year. The appearance of dense fog during the ongoing rainy season therefore stood out as an unusual occurrence.
The fog-covered landscape also gave parts of Bonai a distinctly different appearance, leaving locals fascinated by the sudden transformation of their surroundings.
Tensa Witnessed Similar Foggy Conditions
Bonai is not the only part of Sundargarh to have recently experienced unusually dense fog. A similar weather phenomenon was reported earlier in Tensa town under Koida block on September 1.
A thick layer of fog reportedly covered Tensa, significantly reducing visibility and causing inconvenience for commuters. Local residents said the fog altered the appearance of the town and made familiar surroundings look markedly different.
The occurrence of dense fog at both Bonai and Tensa has drawn attention to the unusual weather conditions being experienced in parts of Sundargarh.
A Rare Monsoon Morning Captures Local Attention
The unexpected fog has provided residents with a striking reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather. Although foggy mornings are more commonly associated with winter and the post-monsoon period, the dense layer witnessed in Bonai during continued rainfall created an especially unusual spectacle.
For many locals, the sight of rain-soaked surroundings disappearing behind a blanket of fog was both surprising and visually captivating. The sudden drop in visibility, however, also highlights the need for commuters to remain cautious when travelling during periods of poor visibility.
