The declaration of results marks the beginning of the admission process for undergraduate medical and dental courses in medical institutions across India.

This year’s examination concluded amid heightened scrutiny following allegations of a question paper leak, making the result announcement one of the most anticipated events for students and parents alike.

Aryan Gupta and Panshul Bansal Secure AIR 1

Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panshul Bansal from Haryana emerged as the joint toppers of NEET UG 2026, securing 715 marks each in the highly competitive national-level entrance examination.

Their exceptional performance placed them at the top of the merit list among lakhs of candidates who appeared for the examination this year.

More Than 11.21 Lakh Candidates Qualify

According to data released by the National Testing Agency, over 11.21 lakh candidates have successfully qualified the NEET UG 2026 examination, making them eligible to participate in the counselling process for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other undergraduate medical programmes.

The results also reflected the strong performance of female candidates. The NTA stated that 58 per cent of the qualified candidates are female students, highlighting the growing participation and success of women in medical education.

Examination Held Amid Tight Security

NEET UG 2026 was initially conducted across the country on May 3 for admission to undergraduate medical courses. However, the examination later became the centre of nationwide controversy after allegations of a question paper leak surfaced from multiple locations.

The allegations triggered widespread concern among students, parents and educational authorities, prompting demands for a transparent investigation and corrective measures.

Re-Examination Conducted on June 21

In response to the controversy, authorities conducted a re-examination on June 21 under enhanced security arrangements. The examination was held with strict monitoring, and the Indian Army was deployed to assist in maintaining security and ensuring the integrity of the examination process.

The additional safeguards were aimed at restoring confidence among candidates and ensuring a fair assessment for all aspirants.

Counselling Process to Begin Soon

With the declaration of results, the focus now shifts to the counselling and seat allocation process. Qualified candidates will soon be able to participate in counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota seats, while respective state authorities will conduct counselling for state quota admissions.

Admissions will be granted based on candidates’ ranks, category, eligibility criteria, and seat availability in medical and dental colleges across the country.

Candidates are advised to regularly check official notifications regarding counselling schedules, document verification, seat allotment, and admission procedures.

Major Milestone for Medical Aspirants

The announcement of NEET UG 2026 results marks an important milestone for lakhs of students aspiring to pursue careers in medicine. After months of preparation, examination-related uncertainty, and the subsequent re-test, successful candidates can now prepare for the next phase of the admission process.

The NTA is expected to release additional details related to scorecards, merit lists, and counselling shortly through its official portals.
