Odisha CM Mohan Majhi Meets BJP President Nitin Nabin in Delhi, Cabinet Expansion Buzz Grows

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi met BJP National President Nitin Nabin in New Delhi on Thursday, holding discussions on the state’s development agenda and the party’s organisational strategy. While the meeting was officially described as focusing on governance and strengthening the party, it has also fuelled speculation over a possible expansion of the Odisha Cabinet.

Photographs from the high-level meeting were shared by the Chief Minister on social media platform X, drawing attention from political observers amid ongoing discussions over the appointment of ministers to the vacant berths in the state Cabinet.

Discussions on Development and Party Organisation

According to reports, the meeting focused on Odisha’s development priorities, administrative progress, and measures to further strengthen the BJP’s organisational structure in the state.

The two leaders are also believed to have discussed strategies for accelerating developmental initiatives in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Prosperous Odisha’ and ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).

Sources indicated that the discussions covered the implementation of key government programmes, coordination between the party organisation and the state government, and future political planning ahead of upcoming organisational activities.

Cabinet Expansion Speculation Gains Momentum

Although the official agenda centred on governance and development, the meeting has intensified political speculation over a long-awaited expansion of the Odisha Cabinet.

The Majhi-led government still has six vacant ministerial positions, and discussions about filling these posts have been circulating for several months.

Political observers believe that the Chief Minister’s meeting with the BJP’s central leadership could be part of the consultation process ahead of any decision on inducting new ministers. However, there has been no official confirmation linking the meeting to a Cabinet reshuffle.

One-Day Delhi Visit Sparks Interest

The speculation has been further fuelled by the Chief Minister’s brief visit to the national capital.

Majhi travelled to New Delhi for a one-day visit on Thursday and returned to Odisha on Friday morning, leading to discussions in political circles about the possibility of finalising names for the vacant Cabinet berths during his meetings with the party leadership.

Sources suggested that senior BJP leaders have been holding regular consultations in Delhi on organisational and administrative matters concerning Odisha, though the details of these discussions have not been made public.

No Official Announcement Yet

Despite the growing buzz surrounding a possible Cabinet expansion, neither Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi nor BJP National President Nitin Nabin made any official statement regarding the induction of new ministers.

The state government has also not announced any timeline for filling the vacant positions, leaving the speculation confined to political circles for now.

With six ministerial posts still lying vacant, political observers are expected to closely watch the coming days for any formal announcement from the BJP leadership or the Odisha government regarding a possible Cabinet expansion.
