Rekha Gupta on Wednesday announced that Delhi government employees will work from home for two days every week as part of austerity and fuel conservation measures following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal amid global geopolitical tensions and disruptions linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
The Delhi Chief Minister said the government would also promote online meetings and minimize the use of official vehicles in an effort to reduce fuel consumption and support national economic resilience.
Private Sector Asked To Adopt Work From Home
Rekha Gupta stated that the Delhi government would advise private companies to implement work-from-home arrangements wherever possible.
“At government level, two days will be work from home every week,” the Chief Minister said.
“Private sector will be advised to give work from home. Labour dept will monitor this. They should give work from home,” she added.
Measures Linked To PM Modi’s Austerity Appeal
The announcement comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption, minimize unnecessary travel and adopt energy-efficient practices amid rising global uncertainties and disruptions in fuel supply chains caused by tensions in West Asia.
The Prime Minister had also encouraged greater use of public transport, electric vehicles, car-pooling and responsible consumption practices to reduce dependence on imported crude oil and protect foreign exchange reserves.
Delhi government officials said the latest measures are aimed at reducing traffic congestion, lowering fuel usage and encouraging sustainable workplace practices during the ongoing global energy challenges.
