New Delhi: Narendra Modi on Thursday held bilateral talks with Christian Stocker at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, marking a key moment in the Austrian leader’s four-day official visit to India.
Tribute at Rajghat
Before the meeting, the Austrian Chancellor paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, laying a wreath and reflecting on his enduring message of peace, non-violence, and global harmony. The gesture underscored the shared values between the two nations.
Focus on Expanding Cooperation
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the discussions between the two leaders focused on strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors, including:
- Trade and investment
- Technology and innovation
- Renewable energy
- Cultural exchanges
They also exchanged views on regional and global developments and explored collaboration in multilateral forums.
First India Visit by Austrian Chancellor
This is Christian Stocker’s first official visit to India and his inaugural trip to Asia since assuming office in 2025. The visit is being seen as an important step in deepening India-Austria relations.
High-Level Engagement Continues
Ahead of the bilateral talks, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met the Austrian Chancellor and expressed confidence that the visit would open new avenues of cooperation.
Stocker is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including senior officials, business leaders, and Austria’s Federal Minister for Economy, Energy and Tourism.
Strengthening Strategic Partnership
The visit builds on recent diplomatic engagement, including Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Austria in 2024, which significantly elevated bilateral ties. The two countries share strong relations rooted in democratic values and mutual interests.
Following the talks, both sides are expected to exchange Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and address the media.
