India Condemns Attacks on UAE, PM Modi Expresses Solidarity Amid Escalating West Asia Tensions

India on Sunday strongly condemned the attacks on the United Arab Emirates and reiterated its solidarity with the Gulf nation as regional tensions intensified following missile and drone strikes linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed India’s firm support during a phone conversation with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The outreach came after Iran launched retaliatory strikes targeting countries in West Asia that host U.S. military installations, including the UAE.

In a statement shared on social media, PM Modi said he “strongly condemned the attacks on the UAE” and offered condolences for the loss of lives. He affirmed that India stands firmly with the Emirates and supports efforts aimed at de-escalation, regional peace, security and stability. The Prime Minister also acknowledged the UAE leadership’s continued support and welfare measures for the large Indian community residing there.

Indian National Injured, Casualties Reported

According to UAE authorities, at least 58 foreign workers were injured in the recent strikes, including one Indian national. The UAE defence ministry confirmed that three nationals from Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan lost their lives in the attacks.

The violence follows joint U.S.-Israel air operations on Saturday that reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior military officials, triggering retaliatory action across the region.

India’s Diplomatic Outreach Expands

Amid the rapidly evolving situation, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held discussions with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi. Oman had earlier played a mediatory role, facilitating last-minute diplomatic talks between Iran and the United States before the escalation.

India has maintained a measured and cautious position on the broader conflict. In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs urged all parties to exercise restraint, avoid further escalation, and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations in the region.

Focus on Indian Diaspora Safety

The developments carry significant implications for India, given that more than 10 million Indians reside across West Asia, including nearly four million in the UAE alone. Indian embassies and consulates in the region have issued advisories urging citizens to remain vigilant, follow local guidelines, and avoid unnecessary travel until the situation stabilizes.

With tensions running high and diplomatic channels still active, India continues to balance its strategic partnerships in the region while prioritising the safety and security of its diaspora and advocating for peace.
