The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on February 24, 2026, said that a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal continues to persist over the same region. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.
According to IMD, the system is very likely to move eastwards and gradually weaken over the next 24 hours. However, related atmospheric conditions are expected to influence weather patterns in parts of Odisha.
Upper Air Circulation Over Bengal–Odisha Region
An upper air cyclonic circulation also persists over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north coastal Odisha at around 1.5 km above mean sea level. This system may trigger light rainfall and thunderstorm activity in several districts.
Under its impact, light rain or thundershowers are very likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha, Puri, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada until 8:30 AM IST on February 25.
The remaining districts of the state are expected to experience dry weather conditions.
Fog and Thunderstorm Alert
Shallow to moderate fog is likely during early morning hours at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Khordha and Puri. Dense fog conditions may occur at isolated pockets in Jagatsinghpur, Khordha and Puri districts.
The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30–40 kmph are very likely in these areas. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity and follow safety guidelines.
Dry Weather Likely After February 25
For Day 2 (8:30 AM IST February 25 to 8:30 AM IST February 26), dry weather is likely to prevail across all districts of Odisha, with no warnings issued.
Similar dry conditions are forecast for Day 3 (February 26 to February 27), with no significant weather activity expected statewide.
