India has formally joined Pax Silica, the flagship initiative of the United States Department of State focused on artificial intelligence and secure technology supply chains, marking a significant step toward deeper economic and technological cooperation with trusted global partners. The move was announced on the sidelines of the Global AI Impact Summit being held in New Delhi and is being described by officials as a historic milestone in emerging AI-era alliances.
India and the United States signed the Pax Silica Declaration as part of a broader effort to build resilient, transparent and reliable supply chains linked to advanced technologies, especially AI systems and semiconductor-linked ecosystems. The declaration emphasises that trusted supply chains are essential for long-term economic security and recognises artificial intelligence as a transformative driver of future prosperity.
What Pax Silica Aims to Achieve
Pax Silica is designed as a multilateral framework to align like-minded countries around secure AI development, trusted hardware and software ecosystems, and dependable cross-border supply chains. The declaration highlights the growing interdependence between AI innovation, economic resilience and national security planning.
According to the US State Department, participating countries have affirmed a shared commitment to promote technological progress, mutual prosperity and economic safeguards through cooperation and standards-based approaches. The framework also stresses the need for trustworthy AI systems to protect both economic and strategic interests.

India Announces Frontier AI Commitments Framework
Alongside joining Pax Silica, the Government of India also unveiled the New Delhi Frontier AI Commitments — a voluntary framework adopted by leading global and domestic AI companies to encourage responsible and inclusive AI development.
Union IT and Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described the commitments as a major outcome of the summit, stating that top frontier AI firms and Indian AI companies have agreed on a shared set of voluntary principles to guide safe, inclusive and widely beneficial AI innovation.
The framework focuses on accountability, safety, inclusion and shared growth, aligning with India’s broader push to position itself as a global hub for ethical and scalable AI deployment.
Strategic Significance for India
India’s entry into Pax Silica strengthens its role in shaping global AI governance and technology supply chain standards. It also complements ongoing national efforts to build indigenous AI capacity, diversify technology partnerships, and reduce vulnerabilities in critical tech infrastructure.
With AI increasingly tied to economic competitiveness and strategic autonomy, the twin announcements — Pax Silica participation and Frontier AI Commitments — signal India’s intent to play a central role in the next phase of global AI cooperation.
