Gopalpur Beach Festival Valedictory Ceremony Marks a New Milestone in Ganjam’s Development Journey

Gopalpur : The valedictory ceremony of the Gopalpur Beach Festival became a landmark moment for Ganjam district, as Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi ushered in a new chapter of inclusive growth and cultural resurgence by inaugurating and laying foundation stones for a series of people-centric development projects. The initiatives announced during the ceremony underline the State Government’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure, tourism, education and cultural heritage in southern Odisha.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized that Ganjam holds a special place in Odisha’s development roadmap due to its rich cultural legacy, strategic coastal location and immense tourism potential. He said that the projects launched on this occasion would significantly improve public amenities, generate employment opportunities and enhance the quality of life for local residents.

Massive Investment in Development Projects

As part of the development push, projects worth over ₹492 crore were announced for Ganjam district. The Chief Minister inaugurated 15 completed projects worth ₹50 crore, while foundation stones were laid for 64 new projects amounting to ₹442 crore. These projects span key sectors such as roads, drinking water supply, urban infrastructure, public utilities, tourism facilities and community services, ensuring holistic and balanced regional growth.

Gopalpur Beach to Get a Major Facelift

Recognising Gopalpur’s growing importance as a premier coastal tourism destination, the Chief Minister announced an allocation of ₹32 crore for the beautification and development of Gopalpur Beach. The proposed works include improvement of public spaces, enhanced tourist amenities, aesthetic landscaping and infrastructure upgrades aimed at attracting more domestic and international tourists while preserving the natural charm of the coastline.

Boost to Education and Cultural Heritage

In a major announcement that resonated with academicians and cultural enthusiasts, the Chief Minister declared the revival of the Upendra Bhanja Chair at Berhampur University. This initiative will promote advanced research and studies on the life, works and literary contributions of Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja, one of Odisha’s greatest poets and cultural icons.

Further strengthening Odisha’s cultural identity, the Chief Minister also announced that the birth anniversary of Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja will be observed as a State Festival. This decision is expected to inspire future generations, promote Odia literature and ensure wider recognition of the poet’s timeless contributions at the state level.

The valedictory ceremony highlighted the State Government’s vision of development rooted in culture, where infrastructure growth goes hand in hand with the preservation and promotion of Odisha’s rich heritage.
