Odisha to Witness Intense Winter Chill for Four More Days as Cold Winds Persist

Odisha continues to remain in the grip of a strong cold wave, with temperatures expected to stay low for at least the next four days. According to the latest forecast from the Regional Meteorological Centre, the State will remain under the influence of cold and dry north-westerly winds until December 12, keeping both early mornings and late evenings significantly colder than normal.

Weather officials attribute the persistent chill to an active high-pressure zone over Rajasthan, which is pushing icy winds directly toward Odisha. Due to this stable weather pattern, no major fluctuation in minimum temperatures is expected over the next several days. Many interior and western districts are likely to continue recording night temperatures below 10°C, extending the ongoing cold wave conditions.

Western Disturbance to Bring Gradual Relief After December 13

A fresh western disturbance is expected to affect the western Himalayan region from December 13, which will gradually influence Odisha’s temperature profile. The system is likely to alter the existing wind pattern, reducing the inflow of cold winds.

With the shift in circulation, the State is forecast to experience a rise in night temperatures, providing much-needed respite after days of biting cold. This change may also help dissipate fog conditions observed in parts of western and southern Odisha.

Cold Wave Likely to Ease Next Week

Meteorologists predict that the intensity of the cold wave will begin to weaken after December 13, marking the first notable temperature improvement since the chill set in. Until then, the State administration and weather authorities are closely monitoring the situation, particularly in vulnerable districts such as Kandhamal, Koraput, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Nabarangpur, which have been experiencing consistently low temperatures.

No major deviations from the current forecast are expected until the western disturbance begins to influence the region, officials confirmed.
