Odia Playback Singer Humane Sagar Dies at 34, Odisha in Mourning

Bhubaneswar — Odia playback singer Humane Sagar passed away on the evening of 17 November 2025 at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, sending shockwaves across Odisha’s music community. He was 34 years old.
According to hospital sources, Sagar had been admitted three days earlier in a critical state, battling multi-organ dysfunction syndrome, acute-on-chronic liver failure, bilateral pneumonia, and severe cardiac problems, including dilated cardiomyopathy. Despite aggressive, round-the-clock intensive care, he succumbed to his illnesses at 9:08 PM.

Born on 25 November 1990 in Titlagarh, Balangir district, Sagar came from a musically rich family — his grandfather and father were both involved in music direction. He first shot to fame in 2012 after winning Season 2 of “Voice of Odisha” on Tarang TV. He made his playback debut in 2015 with the chart-topping song Ishq Tu Hi Tu, composed by Abhijit Majumdar, and over the years lent his voice to hundreds of Odia film songs as well as non-film albums.

Sagar was also active in politics. In March 2019, he joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and remained a visible figure in his community. On the personal front, he married Shriya Mishra, his fellow contestant from Voice of Odisha Season 2, in 2017; the couple had a daughter.

His sudden death has prompted an outpouring of grief. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described Sagar’s passing as an “irreparable loss” to the state’s music and film fraternity, and offered his heartfelt condolences to the family. Leaders across the political spectrum, including Opposition Leader Naveen Patnaik, and Odisha’s Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, have also expressed their sorrow.

Fans and fellow artists have flooded social media with tributes, remembering Sagar as a soulful voice that brought depth and emotion to Ollywood’s soundscape. His final Instagram post — a video of him singing passionately at a radio station — has gone viral, serving as a poignant farewell.

Legacy and Impact
Humane Sagar was more than just a singer; his emotive vocals resonated deeply with Odia audiences, making him a household name. Over his career, he recorded more than 150 songs across 50+ films and hundreds of non-film tracks — his repertoire included hits like Sehzadi O Sehzadi, Mu Pardesi Chadhei, Gote Sua Gote Saari, and more. Despite personal challenges and a relatively short life, he leaves behind a rich musical legacy that continues to inspire both fans and aspiring singers in Odisha and beyond.
