Odisha Bags National Award for Sustainable Urban Transport Initiatives

In a proud moment for the state, Odisha has received national recognition for its innovative strides in promoting sustainable and inclusive urban transport. The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), Bhubaneswar, earned the “Special Mention Award in Urban Transport” for its flagship initiatives — Ama Bus and Ama E-Ride — under the category “Running Trophy for the State/UT that has Implemented the Best Urban Transport Projects.”

The award was presented by the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs during the Valedictory Session of the Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference 2025, held in Gurugram on Saturday. It was received by Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, along with senior CRUT officials.

Recognition for Green Mobility and Innovation

This honour highlights Odisha’s leadership in advancing people-centric and environmentally responsible urban mobility. The CRUT’s initiatives — Ama Bus and Ama E-Ride — have been pivotal in transforming Bhubaneswar’s public transport ecosystem by integrating technology, accessibility, and sustainability.

The Ama Bus service has strengthened intra-city connectivity with modern, comfortable, and eco-friendly buses, while Ama E-Ride promotes last-mile connectivity through electric vehicles, reducing carbon emissions and improving accessibility for all, including women and senior citizens.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

Officials said the recognition reflects Odisha’s growing commitment to creating green, modern, and inclusive cities. CRUT’s transport network is designed to encourage public transit use, curb vehicular pollution, and foster a culture of shared mobility.

Speaking after receiving the award, Principal Secretary Usha Padhee said,

“This achievement reaffirms Odisha’s vision of building sustainable and people-friendly cities. CRUT’s initiatives like Ama Bus and Ama E-Ride are transforming urban mobility and contributing to the State’s larger environmental and social goals.”

The Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference, organised annually by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), serves as a premier platform for recognising outstanding urban transport projects that align with India’s Smart and Sustainable Cities Mission.

With this accolade, Odisha joins the ranks of progressive states leading the way in green mobility, smart transport planning, and citizen-oriented innovation.
