New Delhi, October 15, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced its list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly bypolls across four states and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled for November 11, 2025.
According to the official announcement, Aga Syed Mohsin has been fielded from Budgam in Jammu and Kashmir, while Babulal Soren will contest from Ghatsila (ST) in Jharkhand. In Odisha, Jay Dholakia will represent the BJP from Nuapada, and in Telangana, Lankala Deepak Reddy will contest from Jubilee Hills.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the party has nominated Sushri Devyani Rana from Nagrota, marking a significant contest in two key constituencies vacated due to a resignation and a death.
Full Bypoll Schedule
As announced by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, voting for Assembly bypolls across eight constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Odisha, and Mizoram will take place on November 11, 2025, with vote counting on November 14, 2025.
Bypolls in Jammu and Kashmir
Two Assembly constituencies — Budgam and Nagrota — are set for bypolls next month.
The Budgam seat fell vacant following the resignation of Omar Abdullah, who chose to retain his Ganderbal seat after winning both constituencies in the 2024 Assembly elections. Abdullah had defeated JKPDP’s Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi in Budgam by 18,485 votes.
In Nagrota, a bypoll was necessitated by the demise of sitting BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana in October 2024. Rana had secured victory over JKNC’s Joginder Singh by 30,472 votes in the 2024 election. Previously, Rana had represented Nagrota under the JKNC banner in 2014 before joining the BJP.
Jharkhand Bypoll – Ghatsila (ST)
The Ghatsila (ST) Assembly seat in Jharkhand will see a bypoll following the death of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Ramdas Soren, who also served as the Cabinet Minister for School Education and Literacy. In the 2024 Assembly polls, Soren had defeated BJP’s Babulal Soren by 22,446 votes. The BJP has now fielded Babulal Soren once again in the upcoming bypoll.
Telangana Bypoll – Jubilee Hills
In Telangana, the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency will go to polls after the demise of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Maganti Gopinath, who passed away earlier this year. Gopinath had defeated Congress leader Mohammed Azharuddin by 16,337 votes in the 2023 Telangana Assembly Election. He had represented the seat since 2014.
The BJP has nominated Lankala Deepak Reddy to contest from Jubilee Hills, as the party seeks to expand its urban footprint in Hyderabad’s political landscape.
Odisha Bypoll – Nuapada
The Nuapada Assembly seat in Odisha fell vacant following the death of veteran Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Rajendra Dholakia in September 2025. Dholakia, a three-time MLA, had defeated independent candidate Ghasi Ram Majhi by 10,881 votes in the 2024 state elections.
The BJP has fielded Jay Dholakia from the constituency, in what is expected to be a high-stakes battle in western Odisha.
Outlook
With bypolls spanning multiple regions, the elections on November 11 are expected to serve as a political litmus test for ruling and opposition parties ahead of major state elections in 2026.
